Tend To Your Own Lawn

I like many, am guilty of taking an envious peek over the fence from time to time, just to admire the much heralded greener grass!

Peering through rose-tinted glasses, aspects of other peoples lives can sometimes leave us with a yearning for something more, or worse still, convince us that something is perhaps missing.

Often in doing so, we fail to appreciate all the beauty that exists on our own side of said fence. We also choose to overlook the probability that those same people whose grass we are admiring, are stealing a furtive glance at our garden from behind the curtains of their upstairs bedroom.

Self-improvement and self-maintenance differs depending on the person, but there are small things that can be done that will contribute to our general happiness and well-being.

Let’s just try and think simply for a moment, and consider the simple things.

It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.

– Arthur Conan Doyle

Gratitude is a powerful tool.

Discard all the bells, whistles, accoutrements, and mementos- the representations of the rat race which we find ourselves in- and hone in on the very fundamentals of our existence.

Consider your own lawn, in all of its magnificence. There is no greater oversight in life, than to fail to appreciate all that we have.

The relationships in which we all thrive. The uniquely special bond which exists between two souls; an intense and deep connection borne out of blood, love, adoration, camaraderie.

Connection.

Being able to recognise the pure beauty that unfolds at the beginning of each new day as a wonderous gift.

The very air that fills our lungs.

Sustenance.

Vivid colours. Intriguing sounds. Alluring scents and aromas.

Awareness.

The blood which courses through our veins.

Life.

The rush of electricity which cause the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up the instant she runs her hand along your back, or each time the crescendo of your favourite song reaches its climax.

Emotion.

Graced with individuality- we each possess qualities which set us apart.

Incomparable, yet compatible.

Celebrate those qualities, nurture them.

Flourish.

At some point we will become aware of the path which we are on; each on our own journey, purposefully pursuing our passion.

How lucky we are.

Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.

– Marcus Aurelius
